Kunanyi Folk Club, 6th April 2024 with Daniel J Townsend (SOLD OUT)
About
The Kunanyi Folk Club is proud to present a very special retrospective for one of Tasmania's most respected songwriters, Daniel J Townsend. It was 20 years ago today...
Daniel played his first solo show in The Royal Oak Hotel's smoke-filled front bar. It was Thursday April 7, 2004. Saddam Hussein had been captured, the War On Terror was taking over the world, and George W Bush had recently addressed Australian parliament.
Then, as now, Townsend had a new song to share. He took to the tiny stage - a collection of milk crates covered in what had once been carpet - and sang:
That statue's flame of liberty
Scares me. Who you setting free
And who you gonna set on fire?
Nobody was listening. The bartender applauded politely: The sound of one man clapping.
This show will be a rare moment of looking back for an artist who is always moving forward.
Dinner is available from 6.00pm but must be booked separately with the Fern Tree Tavern on bit.ly/FernTreeTavern, or 6239 1171.
