MOZART'S OPERATIC JOURNEY IN ADELAIDE
About
From his childhood in Salzburg, Mozart’s operatic journey took him to Munich, where he enjoyed his first big success with Idomeneo, to Vienna with Figaro and Cosi to Prague with Don G and Clemenza and back to Vienna with Flute. As an artist he began with the naïve pictorial beauty of Bastein and Bastien written, incredibly, when he was 12 years old, and travelled through themes dealing with political controversy [Figaro], doubts about marriage [Cosi] gender punishment [Don G] and, finally, to the mysticism and profundity of The Magic Flute. Our evening of favourite pieces from these works will be linked with dramatic readings of excerpts from Mozart’s letters, excerpts that connect with the musical selections presented and where the accent will be on ensemble repertoire. A semi-staged prodn in cabaret style. Includes sumptuous interval platter, tea/coffee.
