FUN OUTSIDE WITH WATERCOLOUR, with Gordon Alexander
During this workshop Gordon will focus on classic watercolour techniques with emphasis on understanding the crucial elements to rendering a successful image. Through some fun exercises students will explore how to simplify the scene and play with values, edges, colour and composition to enhance the interpretation of their chosen subjects and convey a sense of space, light and form. The class will also explore some of the pitfalls of using watercolour outside and find solutions.
This workshop is ideal for those familiar with watercolour, but would like to gain confidence when venturing outside, as well as those wanting to extend their knowledge and ability using the watercolour medium.
About Gordon Alexander:
Gordon is a largely self-taught artist who generally tends to paint in a loose, realist style. Watercolour is his primary medium which he loves for its immediacy, variability and expressiveness.
Painting offers Gordon an avenue of mindful practice and opportunity to explore new modes of expression through visual language. He has found that the benefits of his art practice transcend the page and permeate many other aspects of his life.
As well as painting various subjects in the studio Gordon has felt compelled to venture outside and paint. There is nothing like being there, seeing something engaging, spending time absorbed and responding to it, being vulnerable with it whilst attempting to understand and translate it. To do it well often requires looking for beauty in the ordinary, being open to unforeseen possibilities and letting go of preconceptions. Gordon enjoys these challenges.
Gordon is a member of the Watercolour Society of WA and has won the Overall winner in 2022, Plein Air winner 2023 as well as winning the Plein Air Down Under Quick Draw and People's Choice award in 2019, amongst others.
