The Disintegrated Convict (1907)
5 minutes

This 117 year old Vitagraph comedy short from the US was an early item establishing and breaking the boundaries of the rapidly evolving moving pictures. This ingenious trick film depicts a convict’s transformation into different forms to escape from prison. Strange but effective!

Fatty and Mabel Adrift (1916)
30 minutes

Roscoe Arbuckle and Mable Normand are happy newlyweds with a house by the sea. But a former boyfriend of Mabel and other villains launch the house, the couple and Luke the dog, into the sea. And the games begin. Impressive direction by Arbuckle, effective uses of lighting and water stunts, misplaced dynamite, a hero dog who wears a bib and more turbocharge the action. A typical but uproarious Keystone chase concludes this wonderful comedy that contains moments of genuine charm and sufficient proof of Arbuckle’s all-round skills in the movies.

The Haunted House (1921)
20 minutes

A clumsy bank employee (Buster), the bank manager and his daughter, bank robbers, police and the Daredevil Theatrical Troupe, who've just been booed off stage during their production of Faust, all collide in a Haunted House which the bank robbers use as their hideout.

Plenty of inventive gags and acrobatics in Buster's own inimitable style match the fast and furious pace of the short. The ending is brilliant with the pendulum of Buster’s fate swinging gloriously between heaven, hell and a fire! Priceless.

Galloping Bungalows (1924)
20 minutes

A strange comedy short anchored by Australia’s own Billy Bevan. The plot? Well, it is somewhat thin.

A bandmaster consents to marry an aged widow because he believes she’s wealthy but then finds out that her beautiful daughter is the heir. He then rivals with a salesman for the daughter while the family’s beach bungalow is carted away on a horse by accident, catching fire.

The plot in a Mac Sennett comedy is usually sparse with oodles of slapstick, insane chases, escalating hazards, a runaway house trailer gag and daredevil stunt work aided by a fire engine chase of course.

One modern commentator states accurately, “This short by 1920s standards has Road Warrior level vehicular mayhem and stunts.”
