Lost Love Songs of the Holocaust

Lost Love Songs of the Holocaust

In this latest edition of our Music of Memory series we’ll explore the first modern performances of love songs and other works by Erwin Schulhoff, Heinz Lewin (Heinz Letton), CS Taube, and James Simon, all killed during the Holocaust, along with Leo Kok, whose musical career was tragically ended by Nazi torturers. Accompanied by images by murdered Jewish artists including Felix Nussbaum, Otto Freundlich, Charlotte Salomon, Freidl Dicker-Brandeis, Charlotte Burešová, and Malva Schalek. This concert marks 80 years since the execution of these important Jewish musicians and artists from Terezin/Theresienstadt, in Auschwitz in the 2nd half of 1944.

This lecture-concert is presented as part of our Music of Memory series, in collaboration with Flowers of Peace and the Australian War Memorial.
