Unconscious bias impacts every aspect of working lives (and life in general). Like it or not, we all have biases that we are not aware of but will play out for us when:
• we select teams
• we recruit
• we choose who we are friends with at work
• we decide who we trust
We live our lives with the hardwired system that classifies people into “in my tribe” or “not in my tribe”. When people are “not in my tribe” we find it hard to accept them and their contributions. Only by becoming aware of our biases and managing them deliberately, are we able to even start to break down the “not like me” that creates inequity in our businesses.
