Renovate not Rebuild - CPD On Demand

Renovate not Rebuild - CPD On Demand

hero

The ACA was delighted to present this online webinar with energy efficiency champion Jenny Edwards and her colleague Duncan Hall. This informative session provides invaluable advice on creating highly efficient, all-electric, climate-resilient homes, highlighting the delights of small spaces and the transformative power of renovation. Originally held 28 May 2024.

Many in the housing industry suggest that to achieve energy efficiency, the only solution is to knock down homes and start from scratch. But there is another way. New homes are often sold on how much more people can have – more floor area, more rooms, more square metres for the dollar – implying this is of more value. However, bigger doesn’t necessarily equal better, argues Jenny Edwards. More doesn’t make people happier when it equals more resources (financial and environmental) to build, more to heat/cool, more to maintain and clean.

Australia’s homes have great potential for renovation where existing housing stock can be transformed into energy-efficient, all-electric homes. Life Cycle Analysis highlights the sustainability benefits of renovation solutions. People value comfortable, affordable, sustainable homes and good science-based design advice.

This webinar features owner and Director Jenny Edwards and registered architect and Design Lead Duncan Hall, from Light House Architecture and Science, a multi-award-winning practice that integrates science into the design process to deliver highly efficient, all-electric, climate resilient homes, new and renovated, in the Canberra region.
