Beautiful Baroque
About
The third installment of the Mosman Symphony Orchestra 2024 concert series will feature organist Brendon Lukin playing a number of light and entertaining baroque pieces for organ and small orchestra at St. Luke's Church in Mosman.Corelli’s Concerto Grosso in D major, Op. 6, No. 4, is a radiant work, showcasing his exceptional talent in Baroque orchestral composition. This piece is a shining example of the concerto grosso form, which contrasts a small group of solo instruments (the concertino) with the full orchestra (the ripieno).
Handel’s Organ Concerto in F major, Op. 4, No. 4, often affectionately referred to as “The Cuckoo and the Nightingale”, is a delightful piece that showcases the interplay between the organ and the orchestra. The nickname comes from the second movement, the Andante.
A perennial favourite, the orchestra will also perform selections from Handel's "Water Music".
Champagne, drinks and nibbles are included with the ticket!
