Suzuki Grand Concert
Sunday 8 September 2024, 2.00 - 5.00pm at Assembly Hall, MLC, 207 Barkers Road, Kew.

This concert includes group performances by separate instrument groups, from the newest beginners to the most experienced players, of Violin, Viola, Cello, Flute and Guitar. Each instrument group has chosen its repertoire for this special concert (including some special pieces for advanced students), and will rehearse on the morning of the concert at MLC. Piano students will be represented by students selected by audition to play piano ensembles.
Piano Ensemble auditions close Tuesday 20 August
General performer applications close Saturday 24 August
Piano auditions: $11 ea
String Ensembles: $85 Intermediate or $95 Senior (includes performer tickets and all rehearsals)
Babes-in-arms do not require a ticket; children aged under 3 who will sit on an adult lap for the duration of the concert (approx 2.5 hours plus interval) do not need a ticket.
Please note that prams will need to be left in the foyer - prams are not permitted in the auditorium due as they will block access for performers moving through the auditorium during the concert.
Adult (non performing) tickets: $39 ea
Non performing child or concession tickets: $32 ea
Family (inc two non performing adults and up to 3 non performing children): $126 ea
What will I play?
Cello students will play the pieces they know from:
Book 5: Danse Rustique
Book 3: Gavotte in C minor
Book 2: Minuet No. 1
Book 1: The Happy Farmer, Allegretto, French Folk Song and Twinkle Variation C

Book 5+: Cinq Pieces Breve (outside Suzuki repertoire)
Book 4: Siciliano
Book 2: Polonaise (with book 6 version) and March
Book 1: Lullaby and Mary Had a Little Lamb (plus double tonguing variation for more advanced students)
Guitar students will play the pieces they know from:
Festival Guitar Ensemble piece: Paysage Iberique (for students who participated in the Festival ensemble)
Book 4: Bourree
Book 3: Nonesuch
Book 1: With Steady Hands and Twinkle Theme
Book 3: Mozart Minuet
Book 2: Handel Bourree
Book 1: Andantino and Long, Long Ago and French Folk Song and Twinkle Theme

When will we rehearse the group items?
Each of the groups will have a COMPULSORY rehearsal on the day, on stage, to prepare for the concert. Please make sure you have reviewed all the pieces you are playing before the day.
9:00 – 9:30 Piano (arrive 8:50)

10:00 – 10:15 Book 8+ violin The Bee (arrive 9:30, 9:45 rehearsal in Cato Wing, 10:00 onstage)

What do I need to wear?
This very special concert requires Suzuki concert dress.
For students, a white top and black or navy bottoms OR block colour black or navy or white dress (no patterns, plain colours only), with black shoes. If wearing dark pants or skirt or dress, please wear black of navy socks or tights; if wearing a white dress please wear white socks or tights.
For teachers, all black (solid block colours, including black shoes)
(Rehearsals - wear comfortable clothes to rehearsals, Suzuki uniform required for concert only!)
Do students need to be supervised?
All students must be supervised by at least one adult who remains on site whilst the student is in attendance. Please note that this includes rehearsals.
Students will sit in their instrument groups for the half of the concert they are performing in, and with their family for the other half.
