In recognition of the creative writing produced by our students throughout 2023 and 2024, please join author (and a great friend of our school community), Tony Birch, and fellow writer and academic, Bec Kavanagh. Tony and Bec will share and celebrate some of the wonderful work of our students, some of whom will also join us on the evening. Tony and Bec will then talk about his most recent novel, Women & Children, which was awarded the prestigious The Age ‘Book of the Year’ award in 2024.Tony Birch is the author of three novels: The White Girl, winner of the 2020 NSW Premier’s Award for Indigenous Writing, and shortlisted for the 2020 Miles Franklin Literary Award; Ghost River, winner of the 2026 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Indigenous Writing; and Blood, which was shortlisted for the Miles Franklin Literary Award in 20214. Tony Birch is also an activist, historian and essayist. Preston High School is honoured to have Tony Birch as part of our school community.
