Damian Denyer Quartet
About
The music of Chet Baker and Gerry MulliganA celebration of West Coast jazz titans, this set will explore the magical musical chemistry of Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker shared across various recordings and eras. This was the famous piano-less quartet, established when Gerry Mulligan was performing at ‘The Haig’ jazz club in Hollywood. Pianist Erroll Garner was playing there but the next act was Red Norvo’s trio (vibraphone, bass, drums) so there was no need for the grand piano and it was removed. Gerry Mulligan thus faced a dilemma over what to do about a rhythm section. The music will be performed by talented multi-instrumentalist Lachie Glover on trumpet, baritone saxophone virtuosos Damian Denyer, Jazz Fremantle favourite and consummate bass player Danny Moss Jr and the brilliant drummer Bronton Ainsworth.
