About
For this performance Garry, vibes, reunites with long-time collaborators Mike Collinson saxes and Ookii Effendi piano. In 2006 Mike played in Garry’s band that was invited to play in Italy and in 2015 Ookii played in Garry’s band that performed for King Charles’ 67th Birthday. In keeping with Garry’s approach to work with and encourage younger musicians, the quintet will be rounded out with Finn McGidbbon bass and Callum Thomson drums – two of WA’s outstanding emerging jazz musicians.Expect a combination of hard swinging bop and post-bop tunes in the tradition of vibists Milt Jackson and Bobby Hutcherson plus some jazz-arranged pop/rock tunes from the 1970s with Garry on guitar.
