Prevention not cure: A ‘focused deterrence’ policing approach to stop serious and organised crime from happening
About
This presentation will outline the context, rationale and findings from a rigorous trial of a focused deterrence strategy to reduce crime by members of organised crime groups in the West Midlands region. Undertaken as part of a larger research project that demonstrated that value of intelligence in targeting prolific offenders, this strategy was effective in preventing further offending by organised criminals. The presentation will discuss the lessons from this study and potential replicability in other serious and organised crime areas and in other policing fields.Biography
