 About us

The Centacare FRS Pre-Marriage Education course is based on a variety of current, reputable research that supports developing and maintaining a healthy, successful marital relationship, presented by trained facilitators.

Ideally PME Group is completed at least two months before your wedding. A letter of attendance is provided following completion of all sessions in the course.

The day consists of group presentations, written activities, private couple discussion time and some small group activities to enable you to:

• Discuss the current and future potential of your relationship 
• Raise awareness of the dynamics within your unique relationship
• Promote strategies to deepen your couple friendship
• Build relationship skills in communication and managing conflict
• Plan for your future by prioritising your relationship values, goals and aspirations for the future

Topics include:

• Individual, Couple and Societal Ideas and Expectations of Marriage
• Family of Origin Influences
• Research and strategies for promoting and maintaining healthy relationships
• Communication and Conflict Management Strategies
• Relationship Values, Vision and Aspirations
• Creating Shared Meaning of Marriage -Marriage as a Sacrament        

 

Booking information

Who attends - Both members of the couple attend in person. We value relationships with children; however, this course is not appropriate for children of any age to attend.  

Course times - Saturday 8:45am – 4:30pm, registration begins at 8:30am. Can’t find a date that suits, or you need an online option? Check out our private course FOCCUS (click on the link) dates or contact us.

 Location – Centacare and Family Relationship Centre Google map link - 58 Morgan St Fortitude Valley  Accessible only by Morgan Street, we are located on the grounds of St Patrick's Catholic Church, first building to the right of the church.

Parking and transport – free car parking available in front of the Family Relationship Centre building. Please check the Translink website for public transport information.

Letter of completion – at the completion of your course, you will receive a letter to give to your priest or celebrant.

Catering – Morning tea and afternoon tea provided. Please bring your own lunch (refrigerator and microwave and available) or access nearby cafes. 30 minutes is allocated for lunch.

Fees – are per couple. When booking, please select one ticket per couple.

Full Fee - $300.00 
One Concession (Centrelink issued Health Care Card) - $250.00
Two Concession (Centrelink issued Health Care Card) - $200.00 

Concession Cards must be verified prior to the commencement of the course.  Please phone the office for verification prior to booking.

Special needs – please ensure you add your dietary and mobility requirements in the special needs section of your registration.

Pre-reading options will be sent in your confirmation email.

Need to change courses or cancel?  Please advise us as soon as possible, as course availability is limited.

In the event of a cancellation, a refund will be paid minus $60 per couple administrative fee, if notification occurs within five (5) days of the course commencement. No refund will be provided if this notification is not received. No refund will be given if transfer to another course occurs followed by cancellation. No refund will be provided based on failure to attend the course. Please advise if you are unable to attend the course. 

Transfer between courses is available until five (5) days prior to the course commencement date. Transfers can only occur based on current course capacity.

Centacare FRS reserves the right to cancel a course should there be insufficient registrations.

If you or your partner have any current Protection Orders or DVO’s in place, please contact us prior to booking.
