UOW presents Scenes From A Climate Era by Australian playwright David Finnigan. Scenes From A Climate Era is a series of revealing snapshots of a changing world, reflecting on the past, the present and the imagined futures of the impact of climate change. Sometimes heartbreaking and scary but also irreverent and funny, Finnigan’s play aims to galvinise our imagination into action. Join the third year Bachelor of Performance and Theatre students in their final graduation production at UOW as they share with you the insights of Finnigan’s thought provoking and extraordinary play.

Notes from the Cast
In the last five years, the conversation about climate change has seen a dramatic shift, into a kind of malaise-like silence. We, the cast from Scenes From A Climate Era, are of the Greta Thunburg generation; when school students protested globally in 2018/19, such as the 15 March 2019 rallies where more than a million young people took to the streets around the world. Now we are in 2024 and it seems fossil fuel companies have moved from outright denial to what many claim as ‘greenwashing’ tactics. Corporations and governments continue to announce their commitments to net zero; first 2045, then 2050, then 2070 and so forth. Meanwhile the average young person grapples with the ethics of whether to raise babies in this climate stricken world; question whether using paper or plastic is worse for the environment; and how to emotionally process the enormity of a
fast changing world.}
