Peter Monteath is a professor who teaches History in the School of International Studies at Flinders University, Adelaide. His latest book An Indigenous South: German writers on colonial South Australia collects the records of the German settlers who contributed to the founding and consolidation of a British colony. It charts the course of German-Australian encounters from first contacts, through the ruptures and violence of a relentlessly expanding European presence and into the twentieth century.
