Murray's Diary - An ANZAC Story (SOLD OUT)
When the First World War broke out, Murray Aitken, a young Kalgoorlie accountant, was living at home with his widowed mother, Bessie. Like thousands of young Australians, Murray was keen to go on “the great adventure”. He joined the 11th Battalion, AIF. His brother, Frank, who was in Britain at the time, joined a Scottish regiment. As Murray journeyed to Egypt, Gallipoli and the Western Front, he constantly wrote home to Bessie.
Mark Wilmott’s new play is based on Murray’s diary and letters, and reveals the Aitken family’s very dramatic story as it unfolded during the tumultuous years of "the war to end wars”.
Murray’s Diary goes to the heart as to why, after all this time, Anzac Day remains so important to us. It tells a compelling story of courage, ambition and the unbreakable bond between a mother and her sons. It is truly an Anzac story.
