Session overview
No useful piece of research ever happened without a good question. Anyone interested in conducting research (or interpreting published research) needs to have a clear picture of the research question. Most importantly, the research question determines how the study should be designed. All good clinical research questions fall into one, and only one of three types: Descriptive, Predictive or Causal. This seminar will overview the 3 different types of research questions and touch on how the type of question influences the study design.
Attendees will learn what sort of questions are covered by clinical research. The seminar will provide a clear and simple framework for defining research questions that is useful for conducting research and appraising published research. We will also touch on some implications for study design that flow from the question type.
During this session we will cover:
- The function of a research question
- The three types of research question: Descriptive, Predictive, Causal
- How question type links to study design
