John Williamson examines the development of the British Great Trigonometrical Survey of India and the art of both the early efforts to ascend Mt. Everest as well as the art of modern climbing on the world’s highest mountain.

John Williamson teaches Antarctic History units at the Institute of
Marine and Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania.
