“It’s On at The Union,” brings together a full year of vibrant events, historical reflections, and performances to honor this historic venue and the spirit that built it. 

From intimate artistic showcases to community-wide celebrations, there’s something for everyone as we commemorate the past and look boldly to the future.

Screening of Strikebound – In Conversation with Richard Lowenstein

Step into Wonthaggi’s coalmining past with this acclaimed documentary, followed by an exclusive Q&A session with director Richard Lowenstein. Hear firsthand how our town’s rich history inspired this remarkable film.

The movie about 1930s mining in Australia was partially filmed at a real-life and now disused and defunct mine in Wonthaggi, Some of you may recall that the Strikebound film was originally launched in Wonthaggi with the Hon Bob Hawke former Prime Minister in attendance! 

Arrive early to soak in the sounds of the beloved Wonthaggi Citizens’ Band, a living testament to our town’s vibrant musical legacy.

Proceeds from the kick-off event will go to the Wonthaggi Historical Society and the Wonthaggi Citizens’ Band, ensuring that our rich heritage continues to inspire future generations.

Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre is located at 96 Graham St, Wonthaggi.
Open caption sessions for the hearing impaired (OCAP) are offered on select screenings and labled within the session description. 
Seating for cinema sessions is general asmission unless otherwise noted. 
Please arrive early to ensure you have time to purchase drinks and snacks and find a seat. 

Limited accessible and wheelchair seating available.
Companion tickets available via box-office with valid companion card.
All tickets are non-refundable. Children under 15 years must be accompanied by a Guardian (18+).
