Hawaiian Steel Guitar Special Night, Leichhardt, Sun 16 Feb

About
The opening band for the night will be Hoola, making a rare public performance. They feature Graham Griffith on pedal steel guitar, Jenny Griffith (ukulele), Tony Burkys (guitar) & Ed Rapo (bass). Their material is mostly “hapa haole” or “half white”, a product of the great Hawaiian craze that swept the world after the San Francisco Pan Pacific Exhibition of 1915.The middle set sees the welcome return of the Hawaiian Slant trio, featuring Piers Crocker, virtuosic player of the Hawaiian steel guitar. He's joined by his son, Ed Crocker, & Jordan “Mahalo” Mallia.
Ollie Thorpe’s Hawaiian group, “Aloha No”, will close out the night's show. They feature Ollie Thorpe (pedal steel guitar); Miles Thomas (guitar); Brendan Clark (bass); Daniel Kennedy (percussion; Denneya Muscat & Leah Crosby (ukuleles).
Ollie is a multi instrumentalist, prominently known for his guitar and vocal work, and is a regular in the studio and on stage with Australian greats Tim Freedman and Ian Moss.
