Kanyana Treatment Assistant Course

Treatment Assistants (TAs) assist in hydrating and medicating hospital patients, typically during Stage 1 of their rehabilitation. This course teaches the knowledge and skills needed to accurately prepare and administer oral and topical medications only, including tube rehydration, as determined/guided by a Treatment Person.

Sessions run from 9am–3pm and a light lunch is provided.
Kanyana Volunteer (Member) course pre-requisites:
Before attending this course all Kanyana volunteers must have:
- completed Advanced Tube Feeding (ATF) Competencies
- completed Bobtail Nursing (BN) Competencies
- worked as an ATF and BN on a shift for at least three (3) months
- the ability to work on an AM or PM shift whilst completing Treatment Assistant Competencies
- good communication and time management skills
- good mathematical skills
- an approved mentor
- approval from their shift supervisor
On completion of this course, Kanyana volunteers who wish to be formally signed off as Treatment Assistants must work through the Treatment Assistant competencies. You will be guided and progressively signed off on the competencies by your approved Mentor. The completion of Treatment Assistant competencies usually takes 3–6 months from the course date (depending on the scope of practice etc.).
