About
Catherine and Ian join with Carrick Hill Director Susan McCormack to discuss the ideas behind the conceptualisation, creation and interpretation of The Taken Path in the context of the complex past, functional present, and potential futures of the Carrick Hill Estate. Over 12 months of recording the changes and constancies of the path and its surroundings, how have Catherine and Ian come to view the relationship of Carrick Hill with its ever-evolving cultural and natural environments? How do the issues they have raised in the making of The Taken Path apply to other environments? How well do they illustrate the limits of what we can observe, record and communicate about the world around us?
“If we keep to the path already taken, what happens to our powers of observation? If we walk it many times, does our awareness shift or is it becalmed? Can we learn anew from this repetition?”
