Sydney painter Matteo Bernasconi presents Essential, opening 27 March 2025—a striking portrait series celebrating the often-overlooked role of artists in society. Inspired by pandemic debates on “essential” work, the exhibition challenges perceptions of art’s value.

Featuring figures such as Tony Backhouse, Leanne Benjamin, Declan Kelly, and Nathalie Morris, these portraits honour those who shape culture without fame or fortune.
