Researching and Writing 'The Middling Sort'
Dealing with Family Myths
About
This month for Twilight Talks, we'll be joined by Marian Quartly, winner of the 2023 TT Reed Family History Book Award, as she discusses the journey of writing her award-winning book, 'The Middling Sort'.Online via Zoom and in the library on Unley Road. FREE for Genealogy SA members, $20 for non-members.
Marian says, 'My interest in my family history was first sparked by a story told by my great-aunt Ruby, about her grandfather and my great great grandfather, Charles Hall. Ruby told how Charles Hall was disinherited because he refused the career chosen for him by his wealthy father, rather choosing to become a clegyman. Research demonstrated that the story was mostly fiction. But in tracing the origins of the myth, I came to understand connections and disconnections across generations of the family.'
Marian Quartly has taught, researched and written Australian history for more years than she cares to remember.
Please note, this session will be recorded, and all registrants will receive a link to the recording after the event.
Registrations close Tuesday 6 May, 9:00 am.
