Ensemble Gombert are no strangers to All Saints’ or to much of the Melbourne choral musical scene. Founded by John O’Donnell in 1990, it has since then been Melbourne’s outstanding chamber choir. The Ensemble’s subscription concerts are broadcast regularly on ABC Classic FM, and it has recorded several albums. Complementing its annual concert series have been numerous return appearances at the Woodend Winter Arts Festival, a highlight being last year’s virtuoso performance of Bach’s St John Passion. It specialises in a cappella performance of Franco-Flemish music of the High Renaissance. However, its repertoire has ranged over many centuries, as their program at All Saints’ Church will show.
