At this concert we are excited to present Johan de Meij's symphony for wind orchestra, inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien's epic fantasy novel, The Lord of the Rings. The program also includes a selection of music from Danny Elfman's score for the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland; John Mackey's cross-cultural Strange Humors featuring solo djembe drum with the colours of the wind band; Eric Whitacre's The Seal Lullaby, inspired by a poem by Rudyard Kipling; and songs from the beloved musical Wicked, set in Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz universe.
