This programme brings together Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 18 No. 1 — a work full of grace, wit, and heartfelt lyricism, with a second movement said to be inspired by the tragic love and sorrow of Romeo and Juliet — and Mendelssohn’s passionate String Quartet op.13, inspired by his song “Ist es wahr?” (Is it true?).
