Join the ACA and Robert Peake from Management for Design on Thursday 3 April, for Part 2 of the Business Foundations of Architecture CPD webinar series.

Over this two-part webinar series, Rob will share the 10 principles required to build a successful, sustainable architectural practice. Rob will unpack and explain the complexities of business management, focusing on the main elements that make up an architectural business – people, strategy, business and financial management, brand, systems and delivery. Other areas of investigation will include risk management, marketing and communications and the all-important succession planning.

Part 2 of the Business Foundations for Architecture wil cover –

  • How do you understand how your business is performing
  • How do you develop the ability to say no
  • How do you know how well your business is managed
  • What strategies should you have in place to mitigate risk
  • What are the core components of a marketing strategy
  • How do you not compete on price
  • What are the main causes of rework
  • How do you more effectively manage the scope of service
  • What are the 2 core elements of succession and what’s unique about architecture businesses
  • What are the keys to successful succession
  • What is the real product of your work

Robert Peake is a former architect, a management consultant and Founding Principal of Management for Design, with over 30 years industry experience in both Australia and overseas. His work with architects, engineers and designers has enabled them to more effectively control and manage their businesses and to improve financial performance, business sustainability and growth. His focus is on strategic direction and execution, business management and operations, financial management and performance, benchmarking and leadership development.

CPD

Completion of this 1 hour webinar and submission of the self-checked assessment task will deliver 1 formal CPD point.

Learning outcomes – To give participants a better understanding of key business management practices in architecture as foundations for building and controlling a business and the key elements necessary to plan and action improvement. Part 2 – financial control and profitability; managing risk; marketing, communications and brand; design, delivery and innovation, and succession.

Units of Competency and Performance Criteria – Practice Management & Professional Conduct – PC1

APBSA & ABWA Core Area – Practice Management

The webinar will include time for Q&A and a CPD assessment task. Certificates will be issued following participation in the full webinar and online submission of answers to CPD questions.
