The Pirates of Penzance

Camberwell Grammar School with Canterbury Girls Secondary College and Camberwell Girls Grammar School, is proud to present Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance.
This comic opera follows Frederic, a young man mistakenly apprenticed to a band of soft-hearted pirates. As his 21st birthday nears, Frederic plans to leave piracy behind and marry Mabel, the daughter of the Major-General. However, a loophole in his apprenticeship contract—bound until his 21st birthday, not year—forces him to choose between duty and love, as he was born on February 29. Chaos and hilarity ensue, involving bumbling policemen, romantic misunderstandings, and clever wordplay, before a humorous resolution sees justice, love, and logic prevail. The original is set in England in the 1890s, but ours is set in a world inspired by 1970s Australia.
