Schubertiade

About
Schubert was remarkably prolific, writing over 1,500 works in his short career. He was familiar with the music of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, and studied composition with Antonio Salieri. In 1815, as an 18-year-old, Schubert composed over 20,000 bars of music, including the Mass No. 2 in G – the choral centrepiece of this concert. His music was often celebrated in informal gatherings or “Schubertiades”.This Schubertiade will feature some of Schubert’s best-loved Lieder, including Shepherd on the Rock (Madeleine Dyer soprano, Sebastian Allen clarinet), To the Moon (Simon Milton tenor) and Erl King (Kieran Slicer bass), accompanied by pianist Ben Young. Hans Kooij and Ben Young will also perform the Overture in G minor for piano 4 hands.
Directed by Jamie Allen, the choir will then be joined by Madeleine Dyer, Simon Milton and Kieran Slicer and accompanied by the Pillinger Quartet and Hans Kooij on organ in a performance of the Mass No. 2 in G.
