About
Pagliacci is a short black comedic opera by Leoncavallo. Set in southern Italy, the villagers are anticipating the arrival of a travelling group, who will perform the play 'Pagliacci' – (or the Clown).Canio, a jealous and possessive husband, principal actor and leader of the troupe, is driven to despair by his young and beautiful wife's attraction to her ardent admirer – Silvio.
Nedda (his wife) plays the role of Columbine in the play, and the tension between them comes to a head during the performance.
Maleny Singers in collaboration with Kim Kirkman's Inspiration Project Choir, together with the Maleny Performing Arts Orchestra, and guest artists Vanessa West and Shelden Mathieson bring the opera to Maleny Community Centre on 14, 15, 21 & 22 June.
