Explore iconic shops along the Sydney Road Brunswick precinct, visiting 10 notable locations to uncover their rich history.Led by the Brunswick Community History Group, participants will stroll through the area, discovering various destinations. Stops include:
• Hoopers Store (now the Hardwick Building)
• Mediterranean Wholesalers
• Maples Furniture Store (now Franco Cozzo)
• McDougall’s Store (now Raffaele Ciuca Bridal)
• Woolworths Variety Store (now La Manna Fresh)
• Coles Variety Store (now Bunnings)
• Davison’s Grocery Store (soon to be Azeemah)
• Tough’s Ironmongers (now What the Putt)
• Miss R. E. Yon (now Record Paradise)
• McDougall’s Store (now Second Hand Phones)
• Glew’s Claypit (now Barkly Square)
Along the way, attendees will enjoy a drink and sweet treat from two precinct businesses.
The tour lasts 1.5 hours and includes a booklet, a tote bag, treats, and a leisurely 1km walk. Please note that some stops will include steps from the footpath into businesses.
