Parent Partnership Night
About
“Train up a child in the way they should go; even when they are old they will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).
All parents long for their kids to navigate life and faith well. It’s our job to teach them how to do that. But there’s a tension that every parent knows all too well. How do we teach and give directions while also allowing them the space they need to learn to think for themselves?
That’s where Bowen Family Systems Theory can help. It provides a lens for thinking about how we parent and particularly for how we manage the tension between stepping in and stepping back, between suffocation and separation.

Speaker
Matt Steele is an ordained Anglican Minister and a Bowen theory trained coach who is married to Clare and has three teenage children. He’s recently been teaching his daughter to drive and he’s noticed that if he always tells her what to do and where to go she’s really good at following his directions but she’s not learning how to drive for herself. Matt is finding it helpful to think about the task of parenting like that.
