The Vibrant Parish Formation Series

About
How can we deepen our prayer life? How do we go out and invite others? How do we bridge the gap between parishes and schools? Our parishes are called to be life-giving ‘communities of grace’, fostering holiness and discipleship while joyfully sharing the love of Jesus Christ with all.
Based on the Take the Way of the Gospel Framework for Parish Renewal, international and local speakers and workshop presenters will inspire and equip participants to animate and strengthen the five characteristics of a vibrant parish: worship, evangelisation, formation, fellowship, and service.
Connect with people from other parishes and communities, and discover new opportunities for mission.
Open to all—clergy, parish leadership, volunteers, and anyone interested—who hope for parishes that nurture and send forth disciples.
This new formation series will be held over five sessions, with two location options to make it more accessible.

MAY SESSION
Formation: The Superpower of Small Groups
How do we grow communities of disciples who form more disciples? Discover the power of small groups with Everett Fritz, founder of Andrew Ministries and a leading expert in discipleship. Everett believes that discipleship does not happen through programs or events alone—it happens through relationship and accompaniment. Drawing from years of experience supporting Catholic youth ministry around the world, Everett will share practical strategies to cultivate a culture of small group discipleship in your parish for all people. Then, dive into an interactive workshop where you’ll explore resources to support small groups as a lasting part of your community.
JUNE SESSION
Worship: I have called you friends
How do you nurture your relationship with God—through personal prayer or communal worship? The answer is both! Join Katherine Stone, a sister with the Missionaries of God's Love and Vocations Director of the MGL Sisters, as she unpacks how we can move beyond simply ‘knowing about’ God to truly knowing and loving Him. Drawing from Scripture, Katherine will guide you in strengthening your personal and parish prayer life. Afterwards, take part in a workshop exploring one practical way to cultivate a deeper, more fruitful prayer life.
JULY SESSION
Fellowship Hospitality: Transformation for host and guest
What does it mean to welcome others? Fr Chris Monaghan CP, President of Yarra Theological Union at the University of Divinity, will reflect on moments of hospitality in Sacred Scripture. Jesus often receives the hospitality of others, inviting us to consider how we, too, can be good hosts in our communities. This session will explore how we welcome guests into our midst—meeting their needs and listening with love—understanding that these grace-filled encounters transform not only our guests but ourselves as hosts. A practical workshop will equip participants with tools to initiate meaningful conversations with newcomers and respond to the call to 'cultivate hospitality' (Romans 12:13).
AUGUST SESSION
Outreach / Service: Beyond the Church doors
In my own local community, do I love my neighbour?
Jesus calls us to love God and love our neighbour—the Great Commandment. Matthew Chapter 25 may be considered our ‘playbook’ for following Jesus, who is a model of servant love. Hear from leaders in Catholic social services as they explore what it means to serve with love, mercy and justice at the local level, and how we can collaborate with others. You will also hear from a panel of people in our parishes working at the coalface. Finally, learn about a new practical resource to help you identify who makes up your local parish community, using data from the last census.
SEPTEMBER SESSION
Evangelisation: Bridging the gap between parish and school
What can I do to share the Gospel with our school communities? The Catholic school is today’s ‘mission field’. For many families, it is the only place where people encounter the Church in their daily lives. The missionary imperative to share the Gospel—the Great Commission—today may seem daunting. Hear real-life experiences and the wisdom of a parish priest and a school leadership team member as they speak about the importance of listening, building relationships, facing challenges and seeking new opportunities to bring parish and school closer together in mission. Afterwards, a workshop will explore key findings, stories of hope, and resources to help you do the same in your communities.
