ANTENATAL BREASTFEEDING CLASSESAntenatal breastfeeding education empowers mothers-to-be with knowledge and skills, leading to increased breastfeeding initiation and duration, improved maternal confidence, and a more positive breastfeeding experience postpartum.
Classes will be facilitated by a certified lactation consultant (IBCLC)
Topics covered:
Antenatal education and/or discussion will cover the following key points:
· WH’s breastfeeding procedure, including the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.
· Why breastfeeding is important and the risks associated with not breastfeeding.
· The importance of early initiation of breastfeeding and expressing
· The importance of early uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact (with emphasis on the first hour post birth).
· How to recognise when the infant is ready to attach to the breast for the first feed.
· Basic breastfeeding/lactation management, including positioning, attachment, feeding cues.
