Advent2025: Melbourne Neonatal Advanced Ventilation Workshop

After the success of Advent2024, we are excited to be back in 2025 with a bigger and bolder program.
Places are limited - DON'T MISS OUT!
Thursday 24 July to Friday 25 July 2025
Join us for a two-day interactive program, with international speakers, Professor Neil Patel and Dr Anna Lavizzari, covering:
- Basics on lung physiology and mechanics
- Conventional ventilation modes and optimisation
- Understanding and optimising High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV)
- Forced oscillation technique and non-invasive ventilation
- Practical ventilator setup and troubleshooting
- Lung recruitment and closed-loop oxygen therapy
- Lung imaging and management

Neonatal Haemodynamics Masterclass
Join us for a masterclass in Neonatal Haemodynamics presented by Professor Neil Patel from University of Glasgow. This session is aimed at neonatal clinicians, trainees and nurses with an interest in refined neonatal haemodynamic management strategies. This interactive and dynamic session will strengthen basic understanding of neonatal circulation, explore advanced assessment techniques, explore evidence and controversies and much more!
The Masterclass will use interactive learning approaches in a small group format using a case-based format to increase knowledge in the following topics:
1. Understanding of haemodynamic pathophysiology in neonatal disease
2. Assessment techniques, including the role of functional echo
3. Better approaches to treating the neonatal circulation, including inotrope and lusitrope decision making
4. Evidence gaps and controversies
5. Decision-making in complex cases
Saturday 26 July 2025
High-frequency jet ventilation Workshop
When, who and how should we use high-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) in neonates?
Join us for the first neonatal high-frequency jet ventilation workshop in Australia!
HFJV is an advanced mode of respiratory support that has unique advantages in gas exchange and lung protection. This workshop is aimed at neonatal clinicians at all levels including nurses, trainees and specialists who are using HFJV or interested in introducing this exciting modality into their NICU.
The workshop will use lectures, hands-on skills stations and case discussions to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of high-frequency jet ventilation including:
1. What is high-frequency jet ventilation and how does it work?
2. Clinical conditions most likely to benefit from HFJV
3. Practical ventilator setup and troubleshooting
4. Nursing care during HFJV
5. Factors to consider in establishing a HFJV program
Faculty will include Neonatologists, Nurses and Clinical Technologists from the two Australian NICU with longstanding HFJV programs (Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne and King Edward Memorial Hospital, Perth).
Invited Speaker: Professor Jane Pillow, University of WA
Supported by Device Technology
