Planning Effective Listening & Speaking Lessons
with
Skye Playsted
In this on-line workshop, Skye will demonstrate a proven and effective strategy for developing your EAL/D learners’ listening and speaking skills. Building from a model aural or written text, this strategy can be used with learners of any age and at any level.
Skye will discuss the importance of core skills of speaking and listening as well as current, evidence-informed approaches to teaching English pronunciation. The workshop will include working through an example of how to plan and teach listening and speaking using a model conversational text. Participants will be provided with opportunities to reflect on listening/speaking needs of their students, and to locate helpful resources for planning and teaching these skills.
Skye has over 20 years of teaching experience in primary schools, high schools, adult EAL and higher education. She is currently a teacher educator at the University of New England and the University of Queensland, where she is also a doctoral candidate. Skye’s research explores professional learning and the teaching of pronunciation with teachers of preliterate adult EAL students.
