Brisbane’s acclaimed jazz musicians, John Reeves – Accordion, Jan Van Dijk – Fiddle, Rory Dollard – Guitar, Samuel Vincent - Double Bass and Kym Ambrose – Drums provide stunning musicianship.
About the Band:
John Reeves: John is a jazz accordionist, pianist, composer and teacher. He studied classical piano at The Royal College of Music before embarking on a career in Jazz. He has performed overseas and since arriving in Australia in 2003 performed at the Sydney Opera House, Bennett’s Lane and Hamer Hall in Melbourne. He recently returned from central France where he studied button accordion with the great Jacques Mornet at the Centre National et International Music Accordion. John is eager to show off the expressive and pyrotechnic possibilities of jazz accordion.
Kym Ambrose Drums: Kym is an in-demand drummer, composer and arranger and has toured Australia and the world extensively. He is one of the best Vibraphone players in Australia, whose band ‘The View From Madeleine's Couch’ sits at the pinnacle of Bossa Nova and Brazilian jazz music in Australia. His band has consistently delivered their unique take on musica Brasileira for almost 25 years.
Jan Van Dijk Fiddle: New Orleans has become his second home and is a source of constant inspiration. He has been entrenched in the Gypsy and Swing jazz scenes in Australia and abroad for over fifteen years. In Australia he performs regularly with Gypsy Jazz great Ewan Mackenzie in his ensemble Swing Dynamique and with sensational accordionist John Reeves in Swing Musette.
Samuel Vincent Double Bass: Samuel Vincent has been a bassist and educator performing music for the last 20 years. Hailing from small country town Mildura in Victoria Australia. Samuel Vincent (aka Sammy V) began honing his skills at age 7 years as a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. Sam will keep you smiling and at ease and that's when the real fun begins!
Rory Dollard Guitar: Brisbane based musician Rory Dollard explores the music of jazz manouche, reminiscent of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. His performance fuses nostalgic melodies, inventive improvisations and rhythmic precision. He has had the privilege of performing at Woodford Folk Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, Brisbane Festival, MONA’s Dark Mofo Tasmania and various festivals across Australia.
This concert will deliver a wonderful afternoon of swinging Jazz standards, Gypsy Jazz classics and French Musettes that will have the fabulous acoustics at the Majestic Theatre working overtime. Make up a party, bring your own snacks, share a glass of wine or beer from the bar and relax and enjoy an afternoon of wonderful Jazz.
