Oxford friends Jack Chesney and Charley Wykeham are each in love—Jack with Kitty, and Charley with Amy.With plans to confess their love, they invite the girls to lunch, relying on Charley’s wealthy aunt from Brazil to serve as a chaperone. But when she cancels last-minute, the plan is in peril. Enter their friend Babbs, an amateur actor, who unwittingly and unwillingly ends up impersonating the aunt in full costume.
Chaos erupts as the girls arrive, and "Charley’s Aunt" becomes the object of affection for both Jack’s father and the girls’ guardian, Mr. Spettigue. Just as things spiral, the real aunt shows up—along with more surprises.
