Women's Gifts: Meeting Ancient Greek Women thru their Gifts

About
It has long been held that women did not share in the high culture of Classical Greek society. A review of the gifts they gave and received shows this to be untrue. The richness of women's lives can be read in the objects they shared and treasured. This talk will focus on beautiful objects owned by women from Classical Athens and other Greek city-states, and the texts (including poetry) that they inscribed on them. These objects with their texts are a great place for us to kick off our understanding of Ancient Greek society.
