Jewels of a British Coronation
About
Join us at RACV City Club Melbourne for Adrian Dickens' talk on "Jewels of a British Coronation".A British coronation is a custom stretching back over 1000 years. It is a celebration displaying pageantry and pomp as well as having a more serious side in being a deeply religious occasion. For the last 900 years it has been held in Westminster Abbey and in 2023 despite being “toned down” it was also held in this historical abbey of worship.
Since 1661 jewellery and particularly crowns including St Edwards Crown have been worn by the monarch to highlight both their new position as well as giving great credence and splendour to the actual occasion.
This talk discusses the jewels worn by the monarch and his consort, particularly over the last 200 years and how they became known as the British Crown Jewels.
Light refreshments will be served. Doors open 10:00am, talk commences at 10:30am sharp.
