About
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, one hero decides that he’s had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom.From humble beginnings as a small Fringe musical, to a critically lauded Off-Broadway run, to playing nearly 1000 performances on Broadway and collecting three Tony Awards (including Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score), Urinetown is the ultimate “little-show-that-could”.
A gleeful musical satire of capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatisation of natural resources, bureaucracy, the legal system, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself, Urinetown bursts at the seams with wit, hilarity, hope and heart.
