Learning Objectives:

Develop your understanding of pressure care fundamentals and the role of pressure care mattresses in prevention and management of pressure injuries
Enhance your ability to make informed decisions through exploring the latest advancements in pressure care mattress technology, including alternating air mattress systems and other innovative solutions.
Build foundational clinical reasoning skills for selecting pressure care mattresses based on individual patient needs, considering factors such as mobility, medical conditions, and overall comfort.

This session is tailored for fourth or final year occupational therapy students who wish to build confidence in prescribing electric profiling beds to optimize pressure care, comfort, and quality of life for their future clients.

Ilissa Liew
Focused Educator - Sleep Support Surfaces

Ilissa is an experienced occupational therapist (OT) with 15 years of industry experience. Over the course of her career, Ilissa has undertaken extensive work as a Senior OT specialising in neurological disorders and community geriatrics.

Ilissa demonstrates competence in prescribing complex assistive technology (AT) through NDIS and various community aged care funding. She is known for being an excellent educator when it comes to increasing a client's knowledge and understanding of AT, while also empowering them to make informed decisions to address healthcare challenges. Ilissa has also worked in leadership roles as an OT Manager and Clinical Services Manager influencing sustainable change practice across the disability and community aged care sectors.

Her responsibilities as a Focused Educator at Unicare Health include facilitating clinical and product training on sleep support surfaces such as electric profiling beds, mattresses for pressure injury prevention and management, and sleep positioning aids. Ilissa aims to empower clinicians with the skills and knowledge to achieve better pressure care and positioning solutions through the intelligent use and application of sleep support surfaces.
