Since the nineteenth century the way artists have viewed the Australian landscape has changed dramatically. They have shown us that our land is full of visual drama. Gradually they turned away from an accepted European viewpoint to see Australia in its true light, a land of blue and gold. Drawing on works by Sir Russel Drysdale, Tim Storrier, Grace Cossington-Smith, Margaret Preston, John Olsen, Fred Williams and others, our lecturer Carl Altmann will argue that these artists have collectively and individually shown us the raw beauty that makes Australia what it is.
