Seachtain de Chultúr na hÉireann - Workshop - Uilleann Pipes

About
The uilleann pipes are a uniquely Irish instrument. They consist of a double reeded chanter for playing the melody, plus 3 drones and 3 regulators for chordal accompaniment, all of which are sounded by squeezing a bag, which is in turn inflated using bellows. In this workshop, the basics of uilleann piping will be explained and demonstrated, including how they work, their distinctive ornamentation and some basic tunes. If you are a beginner uilleann piper, have ever been interested in learning the uilleann pipes or are curious to learn more about this enchanting instrument, then this workshop is for you.Sean Hodgman has over 15 years experience playing the uilleann pipes. He is one of the founding members of the band Mad Kelpie Playdate, and has performed with them around the Canberra region and further afield, including at The Australian Celtic Festival, The Illawarra Folk Festival, Folk by the Sea and The Yass Celtic and Irish Festival.
