Abstracting from Nature with Eleanor Louise Butt

Join Bayside Painting Prize finalist, Eleanor Louise Butt, for a masterclass in gestural abstraction exploring the natural world. Participants will be introduced to contemporary and historical artists who have explored this theme followed by making drawings from source material and props from Eleanor's garden and developing these into paintings in watercolour and gouache. The class will offer techniques and demonstrations and is suitable for both beginners and more experienced painters. All materials provided. Eleanor is one of 14 women featured in Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art’s current exhibition The Intelligence of Painting.
Eleanor Louse Butt holds an honours degree from the Victorian College of the Arts (2013), is currently undertaking a Master of Fine Art by practice-led research at Monash University. Her works are held in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA), Artbank, Muswellbrook Shire Council, and Gippsland Art Gallery. She was the winner of the 2024 Muswellbrook Art Prize. In 2019 Eleanor was the recipient of an artist residency at Porthmeor Studios in St Ives, Cornwall, UK.
