2025 Basketry - Basic Coiling Using Blanket Stitch

In this workshop you will learn how to use blanket stitch to make a basic coil using raffia palm. This technique can beused to make many things such as baskets, earrings or coasters.
This workshop is suitable for those with no coiling experience, or those who have never used blanket stitch for coiling.
Topics covered include:
• Introduction to coiling materials
• How to start a coil
• How to make tight blanket stitches
• How to add more core
• How to continue stitching at the end of each stitch length
For those who would like to make geometric patterns, this workshop is a prerequisite for the later workshops "Using Spacing to Making Patterns with Colour and Spacing.”
All materials will be provided, and participants can take home the work they have completed, and enough raffia to finish a small basket.
Please bring your own chenille needle and scissors.
The workshop will last 2 hours.
