The Future of Surrogacy in Australia and Internationally
About
The issue of surrogacy, both altruistic (non-commercial) and commercial, continues to attract public, political and media attention here in Australia and internationally. Indeed, in Australia there is an unfolding campaign that is well organised and resourced, pushing for the deregulation of the laws around surrogacy to legalise commercial arrangements entered into domestically and overseas. This is a major and significant break from past practice that has only enabled altruistic surrogacy arrangements entered into in Australia. It is also clear, that further efforts are being made to weaken and remove existing restrictions, protections and safeguards embedded in state and territory laws regarding altruistic surrogacy. With the assistance of leading academic, legal, social policy and advocacy experts from Australia and overseas, a one-day seminar has been organised to examine and consider various aspects of this important matter.Date
