Law Week 2025: Family violence and the Family Law Act

Mallee Family Care Community Legal Centre NSW is celebrating Law Week 2025 with a free workshop on changes to the Family Law Act, most of which come into effect on 10 June 2025.Principal solicitor Peter Baker will lead a discussion focused on helping frontline workers and other professionals who support families experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, domestic, family and sexual violence, to understand how changes introduced by the Family Law Amendment Act 2024 could affect their clients.
This workshop aims to raise awareness about the new provisions, including changes to:
• property settlements and pets
• children’s contact services
• case management of divorces and family dispute resolution
• commonwealth information orders, and
• protecting sensitive information.
Participants will also learn how family violence can affect property settlement proceedings.
